Pinhole Camera

In this project we created our own cameras that were used to expose silver gelatin paper cuttings. These cuttings were exposed individually and then brought to the dark room to process. Since we were only able to load, expose, and process one image at a time-- going through the entire process before starting the next image-- it was a long process. Nevertheless, it was a very fun assignment that proved to be very helpful in the end.

Examining The Object

For this project students were asked to find an object to photograph. The assignment was created to help us master our camera and learn more about focal points/ compositions.

Photograms

My photograms were created by placing various items on my photo paper and exposing the paper for different lengths of time.

Alternative Processes

For the alternative process project, we were asked to take some of our processed photos and edit them. I used burning, artificial gold leaf, and various processing methods.

Camera Mastery

These photos were done as a practice to help me understand my film camera. They were done from a list of directions created to help students try a wide range of techniques and camera elements so our future projects would be more thoughtful.

Fall of Self

This project was used to help visualize my personal struggle with depression and anxiety. The chairs were used to represent myself, and the reflections are meant to represent what others in society might see. This project not only helps others see how I feel and what I am experiencing, but the process was also very therapeutic.

Body History

This was my final project for Photo 1. I used a film camera and a mirror to take pictures of myself. This was extremely difficult due to the sensitivity of a film camera's light meter. I also had to contort my body in many ways to simply get the correct focus, lighting, and overall composition. Even having various backgrounds, it was incredibly difficult. My body was sore for weeks during this project from the different positions it had to be in for the shoots.
In the end this project was very successful, because it had very strong and clear images that demonstrated my overall message. This message was that my body -- through marks, scars, and its overall features-- showed my past and what I have been through during my lifetime.
I was very please with how successful this project was. It also allowed me to develope a better understanding of how my past has effected me.
